A letter from Michael Miklis to ISSA members (June1999):
Dear friends,
Each field represents a variety, as sown in the grain garden. There are 42 "Heritage Children" which break down as follows:
And then there are the adopted Children, some of them are only used as a barrier, like the Schmidt rye and the wheat Marris Widgedon. But also varieties of personal interest like the 2 Triticum Monococcum a single corn wheat, Emmer another simple wheat form, Innntaler grannen a bearded wheat (Winter ) but sown in the Spring to see how it might behave. An interesting wheat from Greece, via Udo and Penny Lange. It is a bearded variety and looks good even without sun.
So far the plants look good and quiet healthy ( except Oats Victor). And I hope that we will get plenty of sunshine in order to get a good harvest.
I wish to invite you all to come to the Open Day on August the 3rd 2pm until 5pm followed by a barbecue and traditional music until the morning chorus or so. So bring your tent and Instruments and let us celebrate.
